Do’s and Don’ts during the trek
Green Trekking:
We in Deccan Trekkers love and respect mother nature for her kind offerings. Here we practice and highly promote “Green Trekking”. Green or Eco-trekking actually means enjoying the best of the nature, wildlife, natural habitats and serene surroundings without disturbing the nature and spoiling the natural resources. If you are here because you are participating in a trek organized by Deccan Trekkers, please take some time and get acquainted with following guidelines associated with Eco-trekking:
Litter Free:
Carry all your trash (including toilet paper, Remaining food etc) while on the trail and dispose it in a proper disposal system.
Campsites:
Leave your campsite without any trace – no trash, no tent trenches, no fire pit and a toilet pit filled in to look as it did before digging.
Cooking:
If you are camping, cook using kerosene (preferably), avoid woods.
Toilet Sites:
Pick your toilet site away from water and religious sites and at-least 100 yards away from tent. Bury all excreta.
Biodegradable Washing:
When bathing or washing clothes near streams, use biodegradable soaps. Toss soapy water away from the stream.
Do Not Disturb:
Do not take anything from the forest except fresh air and do not make unnecessary noise and disturb the system.
“Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints”
Safety Cautions:
Trek with Others:
Never trek alone; if you run into trouble or take a tumble no one will know. Always stick between the head and tail of the group.
No Experiments:
Do not indulge in experimenting with flora and fauna of the system.
No Recreational Drugs:
No smoking or drinking while on the trail.
Follow Time:
Keep up with the group and follow time very strictly. This is pretty important, it might put the entire group in big trouble. Believe me we missed our train once.
Making Fire:
Exercise extreme caution while making fire at the campsite.
